[edlug] Mounting problems
I've just spent the last hour pulling my hair out trying to get my cdr working
again on my gentoo box.
This drive has been running fine under gentoo for a while now, using a 2.6
kernel without scsi emulation. One of my rare reboots into windows has just
confirmed it's still working fine there.
It's been a month or two since i've tried to burn anything with it, and a lot
of things have changed on the box since then. I run emerge -Dup world pretty
regularly, unfortunately I don't usually pay too much attention to what gets
upgraded. There's also been a kernel recompile since I last burnt anything.
The symptoms are as follows :-
Attempting to mount the drive or burn anything to it with k3b gives the
message :-
"No Medium found"
I've tried several discs, all of which mount fine on the system's DVD drive.
Sometimes when a disc is put in it will spin for several minutes before
settling down. k3b will hang on startup if a blank cd is in the drive and has
to be killed.
I did get one of the discs to mount just the once, but couldn't get it to do
it again a couple of minutes later. Once mounted it seemed to work fine.
my fstab for the drive looks like this :-
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom auto user,noauto,ro 0 0
and hdparm -I /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 gives :-
ATAPI CD-ROM, with removable media
Model Number: Memorex Twelve MAXX 1032
Serial Number:
Firmware Revision: LSX2
Standards:
Likely used CD-ROM ATAPI-1
Configuration:
DRQ response: 50us.
Packet size: 12 bytes
Capabilities:
LBA, IORDY(can be disabled)
Buffer size: 1024.0kB
DMA: sdma0 sdma1 sdma2 mdma0 mdma1 *mdma2
Cycle time: min=120ns recommended=120ns
PIO: pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
Cycle time: no flow control=120ns IORDY flow control=120ns
I've tried turning off DMA with no joy (which once solved a similar problem
for me on a windows box) but that's pretty much the only thing I can think to
try.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Cheers
Henry
