Re: [edlug] Stallman's talk

I must say I was favourably impressed by Stallman.

I _had_ thought (from watching a recording of a lecture in Swansea)
that he was a humourless ego-maniacal American bore who would drone on
repetitiously and pompously for about two hours in a high-pitched
voice saying nothing.

What particularly impressed me was that it was almost 90 minutes
before I began to nod off. He seemed to have a dry sense of humour,
passable jokes, and to be propelled by something more than self-love
and ambition.

One minor point interested me. Someone asked "do you think that
software is speech?". He said, approx, "that's just some bollocks we
thought up to win legal arguments".

Another interesting phenomenon was the acolytes and liggers buzzing
round him like flies, as if he were an old-time rock-star.
