Re: [edlug] Stallman's talk
For anyone who was wondering where I was going with my
"Java Desktop" and "GNU/Linux not being a good brand
name" question:
I was going to suggest the term Lignux, and I still
disagree with RMS on the point that money would be
required to establish a new brand. The Linux brand
didn't establish itself through marketing. I think
people took a shine to it because a) it was a snappy
brand name with a cute logo, and b) because it's a
good product - word of mouth!
I herewith take my suggestion back, since I really
can't see any merit in any kind of rebranding of what
we've got. I think he really ought to put that
particular campaign to rest, and be grateful to Linus
Torvalds and Larry Ewing for Tux. But then it seems
that RMS won't listen to anything or anyone. I felt it
was a rather poor show, put down ultimately by his
rudeness and arrogance in answering questions. Why
bother with half an hour of questions if you're not
going to take a single thing on board?!
Regards,
Philipp
