[edlug] Re-inventing the wheel question

Title: Re-inventing the wheel question

Dear all

Just a quick question to find out how other people do things. I have a Redhat workstation and an RHN account, and I can update the packages thereon by using up2date/rpm/apt-get. This can even be scripted/cron'd. However scheduling errata updates requires flagging the errata/workstation to be managed before using rhn_check. Is it possible to script/cron errata updtes without the extra step of managing the workstations in RHN. I know there are issues with applying patches in a Microsoft environment so should all errata be checked on a single workstation first? How do other people manage this? I will be looking after Linux boxes more and more (20 workstations and a couple of servers to date) so don't want to re-invent the wheel.
