Re: [edlug] Thursday? Holyrood?

First off Im new here so hi, and Im just gonna dive right in...

I use IPCop (http://www.ipcop.org). I used to run it on a 486, but
then I "upgraded" to a P100. It works fine on both, but the big win
is really that the web based user interface has gone from annoyingly slow
to very usable now. The network side worked happily on both (that reminds
me 486 up for grabs - ideal standalone firewall - gimme a shout anyone!).

I run 3 machines behind it on my local LAN, 1 windows and 2 linux and
have been very happy with it since first starting using it some 18 months ago.

One thing to note, IPCop is a fork of Smoothwall (which Ive never used) so
theres bound to be some similarities, although I believe they are both starting to
diverge. Smoothwall is backed by a commercial company wheres IPCop is
community developed. Ive found the support from the IPCop community to be
warm, friendly and first class, which is something Ive heard isn't necessary the
case with Smoothwall. As always YMMV.

Cheers,
John.

If anyone turns up, I will talk very briefly about the EdLUG library and
then I would like to chat about Smoothwall.

.. first port - be gentle :)

I haven't tried the linux 'firewall-in-a-box' type products, but I've
heard some good things about m0n0wall, which is based on a minimal bsd
install.

http://m0n0.ch/wall/

looks very groovy and i believe its designed to run on a 64mb flash.
