Re: [edlug] dynamic dns, domain names, and other shenanigans
Michael,
I use a dynamic DNS account on my dialup and have it update
everytime my connection is dropped.
I have it linked seamlessly to my domain name by having a CNAME entry to
the dyndns hostname in my DNS record. I'm not sure whether whomever you
registered your domain will support this..
a) Using my way you can effectively do this for free.
b) If you're on dialup I'd stay with BT Openwoe as getting a static on
dialup isn't really worth the effort. I am assuming you're on ADSL
perhaps? BT Openworld are known not to be the best of ISPS and there are
cheaper, excellent ISPs out there offering static and even multiple
static ips, e.g Eclipse,Zen,etc. BT have also dropped the migration cost
to change ADSL isp to £11 now :).
c) This isn't really a good option as you have realised.
Cheers,
Ross.
