Before everyone starts trying to flash their DVD drives to make them
region free (which will invalidate any warrantee and runs the risk of
killing the drive) why don't you download VLC for Windows, it will play
any region DVD even if the drive is region locked. Under Linux of
course you can use Xine or Mplayer as well as VLC to play any DVD too.
Works fine for me on every DVD drive I have and it doesn't do anything
to that stupid counter. I even have VLC set as my default DVD player on
my Mac under OSX because it actually plays DVDs better than the Apple
player (especially interlaced ones) and again it ignores the drive
region code and just works. In addition it plays DivX and other formats.
