There is a very good reference here,
http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/ that explains the options  
for DVD writing. I was never able to get UDF working with large files  
under the 2.4 kernel. I have not tried on 2.6 yet. I'm having trouble  
keeping current, never mind trying a patch.
