A charity that I help out is looking at rationallizing and replacing/upgrading their phone service from PSTN to something newer and more advanced.
Being mostly a linux guy, naturally I suggested some sort of Linux Asterisk based solution. There are 4+ offices throughout Edinburgh that need to be upgraded, so I'm wondering who are good trunk providers?
I need a cheap ip handset for system testing, does anyone know where I could get one, or if I could potentially borrow one?
Is SIP over ADSL/MPLS the way to go? Is there something else that we should be looking at?
Anythoughts as to things that we definitely should not do? (After the initial testing phase, we are going be keeping the phone network (routers/switchers/servers/drops) infrastructure isolated from the computer network infrastructure)
Thanks for your help.

I have no doubt that in reality the future will be vastly more surprising than anything I can imagine. Now my own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose.
