Re: [edlug] Kernel updates..
Upgrading is easy enough but details depend on your distro. My experience with Fedora was mixed.
I built and installed 2.6.0 from source rpms with the intention of booting in to the same partitions as FC1. Although 2.6.0 seemed to work well enough I was unable to boot back into FC1 as it no longer recognised my (USB) keyboard and mouse. I suppose a config file had got mangled and rather than diagnose using the recovery boot I backed up /etc (and /var/cache/yum) and reinstalled FC1.
I have not yet done a comparison to see what the problem was.
Make sure your backups are current before trying anything out on a production machine.

Subject: [edlug] Kernel updates..
Have not looked into this yet, just thought I would ask question first...
How easy/difficult is it to change from 2.4 kernel to 2.6? is it just a
case of "upgrading" or is there a lot more to it?
