Re: [edlug] Fedora experiences, anyone?

I got Fedora as soon as it came out. I have found it to be generally stable and reliable. A few minor niggles but only nothing to make me think of switching.

Updates come out thick and fast sometimes, e.g. two kernel updates within 3 days recently but I've had nothing break or crash.

I installed afresh and would recommend you do the same. Also keep up with the Fedora mailing lists.

The 3 main gotchas I can think of are the default UTF language setting which causes programs like acroread to fail (fix /etc/sysconfig/i18n as you did in RH9). Also the /etc/yum.conf as shipped is faulty and needs different URLs before updating works. If you use dialup the modem lights applet needs adjusting before it works. Contact me offlist if you need details.

Subject: [edlug] Fedora experiences, anyone?

Hi all,

I have RH 9.0 installed and am thinking of upgrading to Fedora Core 1
to get more up to date packages. I keep reading/hearing mixed opinions
about how buggy it is or isn't.

Has anyone here installed it or upgraded from RH? If so how stable
have you found it to be?

Cheers

Dan M
