How about the image manipulation libaries and things like Image Magick?

Others that spring to mind that you might want to try are are perl (for the regex) prce, grep, zlib, bzlib, crack, md5, PAM?, or anything else that does heavy number chunching. (gcc?), gtk, gtk+, gimp.
