As far as I know, and I'm not sure if this has changed with XP, Windows will
only boot from the first partition.
I have Windows XP and SuSE 8.1 installed dual boot happily on my machine but I
had to install Windows first then run the SuSE installer. My setup is
slightly different though as I have a small drive with Windows on it on the
primary channel, Windows on partition one and Linux on a RAID array on a
seperate controller. I have grub installed on the MBR of the Windows drive.
