Re: [edlug] Software installation under SuSE

The download from Mozilla.org. As I said, logging in as root and using X Terminal rather than Konsole fixed the problem. (ie, logging in as andrew and typing su in a terminal window produced the error.)

Having just installed SuSE 9.0, I decided to reinstall Mozilla. Unfortunately, when I try running the installer, I get the following:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: no protocol specified

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display :0.0

Can anyone tell me what's happening ?

(What no Susers?)

That's the error you get when you're running an X session as
yourself but trying to run a Gtk app with superuser privileges.
There are ways of fixing the X-authentication so that it'll let you,
but my own advice would be "don't do that then" - it weakens your
security and should never be necessary under Linux. Is this
X-client software installer a SuSE thing or is it a download from mozilla.org? --
