See also <http://opendb.sourceforge.net/>, which I started using for my 
personal lending/borrowing (but haven't kept up-to-date -- oops).  Runs as a 
web app using PHP and MySQL.  For personal use it's not that great, as each 
item has an owner, who is the only person authorised to check it in/out, so 
you keep having to log in as different people; but for the proposed EdLUG 
situation it sounds great.
