Everywhere I've worked graduate recruitment (whether for summer jobs
or entry-level positions) has been handled very differently from the
"normal" jobs.
This means that if the company has decided they want someone with
workplace experience then they just won't look at fresh-out of college
CVs no matter how hot your final year project or last few summer jobs
were. Recruitment agencies are instructed not to submit graduate CVs
even for junior 1-3 years experience type jobs.
On the other hand when places have wanted some graduates (read: cheap
labour) then thats what they went out and got, usually by approaching
the local university directly I believe (also general work of mouth
about who's the cream of the crop that year; it seems to me things are
often pre-decided before the interviews, which ought to be ringing
the bells of the equal-opportunities police somewhere).
Oh well, at least http://www.jobstats.co.uk seems to be on the rebound.
Good luck
Tim
