Re: [edlug] How to get a job?

My approach was to pick out the companies that Id like to work for, or
those that are doing the kind of work id be interested in. (In my case
penetration testing and security implimentations), I began emailing
every company in the area I could find that did this sort of work
enclosing my CV and details of what thought I could bring to their
company. I initially sent out about 20 emails to see what the response
was like.
I got about 7 replies mostly saying that they werent hiring, but i did
get 2 interviews and I took one of the jobs, I also got an offer from a
company that offers security services to the clients but has never
actually been asked for it, they said they'd consider me for freelance
work if such a project came up.
As for qualifications I didnt have much IT orientated stuff and I have
no certifications at the moment.
This is only my second full time job so my experience of finding jobs is
limited, but both these jobs have been in IT and both of them have been
the result of knocking on doors and laying my cards on the table. My
current employers hired me based on an informal interview over a few
drinks, they told me the only reason they thought about interviewing me
was because I just threw myself at them, they werent all that interested
in my CV. (they were techs not HR so its slightly different I guess)
Anyway my advice is dont just hit the jobs websites and be one of 300
sheep, get your CV into as many hands as possible.
Good luck with the searching.
